Lifewire cites the ten most famous sites of 2018, and the first is, of course, Google.com, the world’s most popular search engine, where about 3.5 billion searches are made every day. The U.S.-based company is involved with internet services and products, including online advertising.
The second most visited site is YouTube, another U.S.-based company that offers video sharing content and technology. About 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every day in the most popular video website on the web that has become the hub of entertainment and learning through video “how to” information.
Next is Facebook, a social media network created and developed in the U.S. An estimated more than 1.4 billion people use Facebook.com every day to contact and communicate with people, search for ideas and products both for entertainment and information gathering. Facebook has also functioned as a video sharing network. It’s the most popular social networking site on the web, according to Lifewire.
Baidu.com comes next as one of the top most viewed sites in 2018. The China-based search engine captures 70 percent of the search market share and is the most popular Chinese-language search engine and is used by millions of people every day. Similar to services offered by Google, Baidu is used by 90 percent of Chinese-speaking people everywhere.
The fifth top most viewed site in 2018 is Wikipedia.org, an online encyclopedia accessed by hundreds of millions of people every day in search for information about specific topics. Lifewire says it is one of the most useful multilingual sites on the web that is freely written by collaborators around the world. Every day Wikipedia adds about 800 new articles to its knowledge bank.
The sixth top most viewed site in 2018 is Reddit, another U.S.-based unique social news organization that consists of a vast collection of people and links that are shared, including about every topic of pop culture. You can either give something a thumbs up if you see something you like, or you can give it a thumbs down. Its “ask me anything” session on the site is like a moving encyclopedia.
The seventh is Yahoo.com, a web portal and search engine and one of the most popular email bastions of the globe. An estimated one billion people or more visit Yahoo.com for news and information as well as to log into an email address. The U.S.-based company is also e engaged in online advertising.
Next in rank is the Chinese portal Tencent QQ or QQ.com, a messaging service that provides users with an online life service and encourages users to write blogs, send photos, keep diaries, watch videos and listen to music in a social networking service mode, resembling some features of Facebook.
After QQ is Amazon.com, an online retail and wholesale shopping website with about 600 million products for sale and the number one online shopping website in the U.S. Lifewire says Amazon sells about 3 billion products across 11 marketplaces worldwide. It includes a membership program that offers free or discounted shipping, and access to a vast library of music, videos, audiobooks, and games.
